Nakasero Ridge Villa

A four-bedroom family house that reads the ridge rather than flattening it — split levels, deep eaves and a courtyard that stays cool through the dry season.

The practice

AM Consults is an architectural practice based in Kampala. We work across residential, commercial and institutional projects in Uganda — from single houses on difficult hillside plots to hospital wings and twelve-storey offices.

What connects them is a way of working: understand the site properly, design for this climate rather than an imported one, choose materials that will still look right in twenty years, and stay involved until the building is finished.

Site before styleEvery scheme starts with the slope, the sun path and the prevailing breeze — not with a reference image.
Materials that age wellFair-faced concrete, Kajjansi brick, local hardwood and stone. Nothing that needs an imported spare part.
Delivered, not just drawnWe stay on site through construction. The building that gets built is the building we designed.

What we do

Most clients come to us for the architecture and stay for everything around it. Each service works on its own — together they mean one team is accountable from first sketch to handover.

How we work

Every commission runs on the same spine. You always know which stage you are in, what is being produced, and what decision is needed next.

01Week 1–3

STAGE 01

Listen and look

We walk the site, read the survey and the title, and spend real time on the brief. Most of what a project will cost is decided here, before a line is drawn.

  • Site appraisal
  • Brief and space schedule
  • Constraints review
02Week 3–8

STAGE 02

Test options

Two or three genuinely different concepts, each costed at order-of-magnitude. We would rather show you an option you reject than only the one we liked.

  • Concept options
  • Massing studies
  • Indicative cost per option
03Month 2–6

STAGE 03

Develop and coordinate

The chosen scheme is developed in BIM and coordinated with structural and services engineers. Clashes get resolved on the model, where they are cheap.

  • Developed design
  • Engineering coordination
  • Statutory submission

STAGE 04

Build and hand over

Tender documentation, contractor selection, then regular site inspections through construction, snagging and handover. We do not disappear at tender stage.

  • Tender package
  • Site inspections
  • Snagging and O&M

Start here

Send us the plot, the brief, or just a rough idea of what you want to build. The first conversation costs nothing, and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right practice for it.
